Going back to the history of this popular drink, the cocktail was invented by John G Martin and Jack Morgan in 1941. A lot of stories regarding the invention of this drink are there. Indeed the most popular one explains that the cocktail was invented in Hollywood at Cock n’ Bull restaurant as Jack Morgan joined hands with John Martin. At that time Morgan was the owner of the Cock n’ Bull pub whole Martin was famous to be working at Heublein Brothers Inc. Martin once visited the restaurant on Sunset Strip where Morgan was facing problem selling the ginger beer. At the restaurant itself, both John and Jack invented the new cocktail by mixing in the vodka and ginger beer in a 1:2 ratio, adding lots of ice and some lime juice. And to increase the aesthetic appeal of the cocktail, they served it in copper mugs.

Later Morgan was successful at involving a few stars like Woody Allen for promoting the drink. For further promotions, names of popular celebrities and stars who visited the pub were also engraved on mule copper mugs. Copper mugs keep this cocktail cold and become the best serving mugs.

How to make the original Moscow Mule?

• Pour 1 part of vodka into a mug. Add 2 parts of ginger beer and lots of ice cubes.
• Stir well to combine.
• Drop some lime wedges in the mug for perfect garnishing.

• Mint
• 5 oz lime juice

Instructions:

1. Add lime juice and bourbon in a copper mug with ice cubes
2. Fill in the ginger beer and garnish with lime

Summer Mule

The next variation with the Moscow Mule we have is Summer Mule. This cocktail asks you to add a few fresh berries to the drink and boost the flavor. Some people do not add ginger beer in this as to allow the taste of the berries to shine more.

Ingredients:

• ½ ounce fresh lime juice
• Fresh berries 4-6
• 2-ounce vodka
• 3-ounce ginger beer (optional)
• Soda water and ice

Instructions:

1. Muddle the fresh berries along with some lime juice. You can use raspberries, blueberries or blackberries as per your choice or even strawberries. You can use whatever you have handy at your home. Make sure that whichever berries you use, they need to break down completely when you muddle, creating a sort of syrupy texture.
2. Then add vodka and ginger beer
3. Pour ice cubes over it and then add soda water
4. Enjoy the sparkling berries icy cold

 

 

 

Long Island Mule

• ½ ounce lime juice
• ½ ounce lemon juice
• 2 ounces of vodka

• 3 ounces ginger beer
• ½ ounce orange liqueur
• 1 ounce of light rum
• ½ ounce tequila
